ZIMRA

Welcome to our web site!
No society can live without culture. Art,
literature and MUSIC form an integral part of a community. Without it, there would be nothing to communicate, no intellectual
stimulation, and life would be dull.

| The task of an artist or author of books
in protecting their rights is not as difficult as that of a composer of music, especially popular music. These works are often
performed publicly thousands of times daily at all sorts of venues. It would be impossible in practice for each music user
to approach each individual copyright owner for permission to perform his work, and of course it would be impossible for the
copyright owner to deal adequately with these applications. Therefore, a special method of protection for these copyright
owners is necessary. This special protection is afforded to authors by the formation of performing rights societies. |

What is Zimra??
The
ZIMBABWE MUSIC RIGHTS ASSOCIATION (ZIMRA) is an association of composers and publishers of music established to protect certain
rights of Zimbabwe author members granted to them under the copyright law. It was incorporated in terms of Section 22 of the
Companies Act (CAP 190). To this end a certificate was required from the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, which
was granted on 22nd March 1982. ZIMRA was registered by the Registrar of Companies on 30th March 1982.
Like all Section
22 companies, ZIMRA is limited by guarantee, has no share capital, is non profit-making and pays no dividends.
